Wantage development now sold out with half homes sold to first-time buyers

More than half of the homes at a new development near Wantage have been purchased by first-time buyers.

Bellway’s Grove Meadows development, off Station Road in Grove, is now sold out – and Bellway revealed it has played a significant role in helping people to take their first step onto the housing ladder.

Luke Southgate, Sales Director for Bellway Northern Home Counties, said: “From the moment we launched Grove Meadows, it was clear it would be popular with first-time buyers.

“We had designed a range of homes from two-bedroom properties through to four-bedroom houses at prices which were accessible to the local market. Grove is a fantastic location and offers excellent value for Oxfordshire.

“More than half of our purchasers were first-time buyers. Two thirds of buyers at Grove Meadows used the Government’s Help to Buy scheme. This included people who were looking for a helping hand to move up the ladder.

“A large proportion of our customers have moved from Grove, Wantage and the surrounding areas.”

Help to Buy was previously available to first-time buyers and home movers. It has been replaced by a scheme for first-time buyers only.

Construction of the final homes at Grove Meadows is imminent, with the last of the new residents due to move in early in the new year.

The development has provided a total of 204 homes. This included 84 affordable homes for shared ownership and rental.

Luke Southgate said: “Grove Meadows has truly met the needs of local people, both through private sales and the provision of affordable homes. It is an attractive development, and a welcoming new community has formed since we opened in 2017.

“The location of Grove Meadows has been well suited to people who commute to Oxford and Swindon. The site sits within a 15-minute drive of the A34, yet offers village living.

“Families have been drawn by the shops, restaurants and excellent local schools. Now with more people working from home, the flexible layouts of the homes have enabled people to comfortably set up home offices.”
