Bellway has purchased a second parcel of land within a major regeneration scheme in Bishop’s Stortford, paving the way for the construction of a further 174 apartments in the town.

The land deal for the housebuilder’s second phase at Goodsyard, off Station Road, was completed with lead developer Solum on Thursday (1 April). The new development will be known as Southside Locks at Goodsyard.

The site acquired by the housebuilder’s North London division will comprise of five apartment blocks which will house 128 homes for private sale and 46 affordable homes available for local people through shared ownership or affordable rent.

Bellway has already begun construction work on the first phase of 149 apartments, known as The Exchange at Goodsyard, which also includes 18 affordable homes.

The two Bellway developments within the wider Goodsyard scheme will create a number of new jobs over the construction period, boosting the local workforce and economy in the area.

Ali Maruf, Managing Director of Bellway North London, said: “By purchasing the second phase at Goodsyard, we are extending our commitment to the consortium and our relationship with lead developer Solum.

“The wider development will bring over 500 new homes to Bishop’s Stortford, as well as an 85-bed hotel, a 55-bed care home and new shops and offices, transforming the disused former goods yard into a thriving new community.

“Improvements will also be made to the area surrounding the train station, which is less than a minute’s walk away from the development.

“Residents at Goodsyard will benefit from being only a few minutes’ walk from the town centre of Stortford, a charming market town which has an excellent range of shops and places to eat among its many amenities. Once complete, the second phase of Goodsyard will also include retail or commercial space within the ground floor of the apartment buildings.

“The first homes for sale at The Exchange at Goodsyard (phase one) were released for sale on 27th March, with 15 apartments being reserved in the first week, and the development is set to welcome its first residents in spring next year.”
