Chelmsford-based Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties is continuing its positive work to support local employment, by creating 10 new roles to develop young talent across the East of England in the construction industry.

The leading housebuilder aims to recruit eight new trade apprentices specialising in bricklaying or carpentry to work across its developments in Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, and two apprentice support technicians to work at its divisional head office in Chelmsford.

The vacancies come as part of the 15th annual National Apprenticeship Week (7th to 14th February) which celebrates the benefits of apprenticeships for individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

National Apprenticeship Week is a celebration of apprenticeships across England and is a time to recognise and applaud apprentices across the country.

Throughout its 15 years, National Apprenticeship Week has brought together apprenticeship supporters from across the country with MPs, ambassadors, apprentices, training providers and top employers involved in recognising the value and importance of apprenticeships.

Simon Wood, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “The construction industry is continuing to grow and this is an exciting time for anyone with an interest in housebuilding to join a market leading company.

“As the country’s leading housebuilder, we are absolutely committed to developing new talent and I believe that we have a duty to provide these kinds of apprenticeship opportunities.”

The new apprentices will learn skills in bricklaying or carpentry on site, or gain commercial or technical experience in office from industry experts for four days a week.

They will also spend one day a week at college undertaking a qualification in their chosen field.

All programmes are well structured and tailored to individual needs. Apprentices will receive encouragement, support and guidance to help them develop, giving the skills and qualifications for a successful career.
