Yorkshire-headquartered construction company, Big Red, has announced record results to coincide with its five-year anniversary. Founded in Huddersfield, the business has seen record financial results through Covid, working on a series of landmark schemes. The business now has an order-book value of £20m.
Founded from his garage by current Managing Director and owner, Mike Lomas, Big Red has seen exponential growth during its five years of operation, moving from fitting out shops and bars in hometown Huddersfield, to working on a range of landmark projects in towns and cities throughout the UK. The business has expansion plans focus in the Food, Pharmaceutical and Healthcare sectors and is working with leading names on projects in those sectors.
In addition, the business is engaged on landmark regeneration schemes, such as Renaissance Works in Huddersfield, Ducie Street in Manchester and the former HSBC building in Prescott. After a strong start to the year, a raft of new projects are lined up to be announced in the coming weeks and months.
The team at Big Red celebrated their five years of growth at a special charity event at The John Smiths Stadium, Huddersfield, on Friday. The ball brought together the individuals and organisations that have played a role in Big Red’s growth story, whilst raising £18,000 for the Kirkwood Hospice in the process.
Mike Lomas, Managing Director of Big Red Industries said:
“It’s incredible to see what we have achieved in the last five years but bring on the next five – we still have so much ambition. We have made a name for ourselves by going against the grain, in an industry which isn’t always known for innovation. I’m incredibly proud of the team we’ve built and the outstanding work we’re delivering.
“Having a focus on Food, Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare means that we can provide specialist advice for bespoke client needs. Every project is unique, and by demonstrating expertise in these areas, we’re able to deliver superior work on time and on budget, for a growing and impressive list of clients, which now includes multinationals.
“Whilst we’ve seen record results over the last financial year and our order-book is the healthiest it’s ever been, we’re not resting on our laurels. We want to ensure we grow in a sustainable way and the team around me are primed to take the business to the next level. We’ve achieved so much in our first five years and I’ve no doubt the next will take us international. I set out with an ambition to make waves within the construction industry, and we’re just getting started.”
To continue the upward trajectory and growth of Big Red, this year Mike has bought out shareholders of the Big Red Industries Group, and now owns 90% of the business to ensure that the business continues to grow in a sustainable and focused way.
With the strong senior leadership team now in place, Big Red is primed to take on bigger and more ambitious projects throughout 2022 and beyond. The team has its sights set on a multidisciplinary approach to the construction sector, with projects in Food, Pharma and Health and Building Management Services as well as commercial and residential construction contracts. It has also branched out into sports, with its ownership of Rugby League team Midlands Hurricanes, continued long-term partnership with Huddersfield Giants, and most recently, sponsorship of Huddersfield Town FC.
